abstract

  • Dramatic increase in commercial shrimp farming has been recorded in the decades following the 1970s, particularly due to the market demand of the EU, USA, and Japan. Currently, approximately 80% of farmed shrimp is cultured in Asia, including China and Thailand. Latin America, especially Brazil, is also a major producer. Nevertheless, Thailand is the top exporter. Most farmed shrimp belongs to the family Penaeidae which includes Pacific white shrimp and Black tiger shrimp, comprising 80% of all farmed shrimp.
