Gynecologic malignancies, particularly cervical, ovarian and endometrial cancer, account for a large proportion of the cancer burden in women in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Surgery is the cornerstone of management in most cases of gynecologic cancers, however, in many LMICs, significant challenges exist to providing this type of surgical care. This chapter will review the burden of disease of gynecologic malignancies in LMICs, and the ways in which surgical care plays a critical role in the management of these cancers. The challenges to providing such care, and some approaches to meeting such challenges, will also be discussed.
