abstract

  • A methodology for the design and analysis of implantable telemetry systems from finite-element electromagnetic field solutions is presented. Variational techniques and the finite-element method were used to obtain the numerical solutions to the electromagnetic field problem. Two telemetry systems with two different performance criteria are implemented. Design and analysis results for the external instruments coil of the first system and the implant coil for the second system were obtained from the numerical solutions and from laboratory measurements. Excellent correlation between numerical and experimental results were achieved. The method can significantly contribute to the improvement of telemetry system performance through optimization studies as well as to the reduction of the overall system development time and cost.
