abstract

  • A new experiment for undergraduates showing voltage and frequency control of a small alternator for a two bus power system is introduced. Voltage and frequency controllers were designed in Simulink and implemented using dSPACE. A subsystem of the scaled down power system testbed developed at Florida International University was utilized to study the effects of varying load on the generator operating voltage and frequency. Hardware-in-the-Loop, power converter and fuzzy logic controllers were included in the experiment to underscore the importance of control systems, power electronics and application of artificial intelligence in power systems. © 2008 IEEE.
