  • The airbag electronic system is a significant unit in vehicles for the safety of drivers and passengers. The piezoelectric transformer (PZT) is a core element of the piezoelectric converter which produces a steady high voltage to trigger airbags in the safety system. In order to ensure the normal operation, the charging of the converter should be fast and dependable. In this paper, a fourth-order Phase Locked Loop (PLL) tracking scheme is proposed to track the charging frequency of a high-voltage piezoelectric converter. The simulation results verify the reliable performance of the proposed tracking circuit for the high-voltage piezoelectric converter. © 2011 ACM.
