abstract

  • Public health programs often struggle to help students review MPH competencies before practicum experiences and workforce application. To address this, the Competency Spotlight webinar series was developed to provide program-wide, engaging, and visually-rich learning tools. A total of 22 webinars (one for each MPH foundational competency) were developed, delivering consistent, structured, and accessible reminders for students across the program. This session showcases a model that combines competency reviews with innovative multimedia to maximize engagement. Each webinar highlights action word definitions and course connection points, then extends learning through AI-enhanced, scenario-driven applications and practicum examples. The experience is enriched with vibrant music, visuals, and Miami-inspired elements. Attendees will learn how low-cost tools, including Canva, HeyGen, and freely available royalty-free media, can support scalable, innovative teaching. Video examples will demonstrate how the series reinforces competencies and supports student practicum planning, accompanied by evaluation data showing high engagement and positive feedback. This session offers a replicable, cost-effective approach to competency reinforcement while modeling responsible and ethical use of AI, equipping participants to engage their learners in meaningful ways that reflect the unique vibe of their program and community.
