  • Osteopenia (insufficient bone mineralization) of prematurity is a problem commonly encountered in neonatal units involved in taking care of premature infants. Adequate monitoring and appropriate interventions could decrease the severity of the problem and the possible long term side effects. This article outlines some of these strategies.
