  • The use of procedural sedation and analgesia in pediatric outpatient setting is increasing in recent times. Pediatricians must facilitate optimal care, as advocated by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), to provide safe and effective sedation and analgesia. This article defines the differences between analgesia, anxiolysis, sedation, and anesthesia, and reviews the optimal care conditions for analgesia and sedation in the office setting according to the AAP Guidelines.
