abstract

  • Sepsis is the most common cause of death in infants and children throughout the world. Sepsis and septic shock are the end-result of interaction between invading microorganism or their products and the host. The management of sepsis includes timely and effective diagnosis and treatment of infection with source control and antimicrobial agents, rapid and targeted resuscitation from shock with fluids and vasoactive medications, adjuvant therapies including steroids in selected patients, and supportive therapies such as lung protective ventilation for acute lung injury.
