abstract

  • Learning environmental robotics requires integrating hands-on assembly, sensor behavior, and data interpretation within a single, situated workflow. We present work in progress on Augmented Learning for Environmental Robotics Technologies (ALERT), a passthrough Augmented Reality (AR) learning platform delivered as a micro-credential course that combines web onboarding, kit-based lab practice, and guided AR tasks. The curriculum is organized into six modules covering foundational circuits, actuation, environmental sensing, visualization, and data interpretation. ALERT uses a pedagogical agent that links learner interaction telemetry and real-time sensor data to provide adaptive prompts and hints. The current prototype implements rule-based adaptation, with planned Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods to enable scalable, personalized assessment and feedback. Formative user testing with approximately 20 participants across architecture, computer science, and engineering disciplines has established feasibility, curriculum appropriateness, and interaction clarity through structured exit interviews, task completion times, error analysis, and hint usage patterns.
