abstract

  • This work presents the design, development and usage of a distributed framework and testbed for the development and operation of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) & Digital-Twin (DT) systems, that integrates distributed simulation and emulation subsystems with real-time data flows in a mixed real and virtual / 3D environment. Since trustworthiness, security and safety have been identified as principal qualities forming the foundations of a DT platform and system, the framework has been applied for the demonstration, usage and evaluation of a smart and energy efficient building's DT system, focusing introspectively on the combined low-level functions of zero-touch onboarding of its IIoT infrastructure elements, before its ultimate usage in monitoring, predicting and adapting the building's energy demands.
