This is a world premiere recording of art songs by the German composer, Peter Gast (1854 - 1918), who was closely associated with the philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche. Due to this close relationship, Gast's music was banned by the Soviet authorities following the Second World War, and his manuscripts and published works were locked away until the fall of the Berlin Wall. This CD includes the world premiere recordings of numerous solo art songs by the composer and makes the case for a reassessment of a composer highly praised by Nietzsche and his circle during their lifetimes.
