Calls to “Never Again” allow a genocide to occur have fallen short of reality, at least partly because of the continuation of genocide ideology—and of myth and misinformation—in schools and societies all over the world. This chapter warns against the consequences of not teaching about genocide at the elementary level. First, the chapter outlines debates regarding the “appropriateness” of teaching about genocide at the elementary level and what “counts” as genocide. Next, the chapter discusses some possibilities and pitfalls of teaching about genocide, and lastly, it provides teachers some resources for learning more.
