abstract

  • We consider the elastic deformation of random packing of bonded circular particles. Due to the random micro-structure, these packing exhibit randomly varying stress and strain fields. In this paper, homogenization technique is applied for averaging these field quantities with the view of calculating effective moduli of granular packing. The homogenization method s used in conjunction with a micro-mechanics modeling scheme for granular packing. In the micromechanics scheme, granular packing are modeled as a collection of rigid particles interacting via Hertz-Mindlin type contact interaction of non-conforming bodies.
