Clinical reasoning is the thinking process that practitioners use to plan and direct practice. The occupational therapy practitioner begins this process using guidelines for action to select relevant evaluations to identify a person’s most pressing occupational performance issues and direct subsequent decisions about intervention. This chapter presents a five-step guide to assist the practitioner in selecting and using a framework as the foundation to build a sound evaluation and intervention plan.
