abstract

  • Epiphyte chlorophyll was calculated incorrectly in the original article. The units should be ng/cm2 instead of µg/cm2. This affects Figs. 3d, 4 and supplemental figures which are below. However, it does not affect the conclusions of the study. Fig. 3 Boxplot of epifaunal mass (a), epifaunal inorganic mass (b), biofilm (c), Chlorophyll (Chl a) (d), dissolved oxygen (DO) (e), ammonium (NH4+) (f), nitrate (NO3- + NO2-) (g) and dissolved inorganic phosphate (DIP) (h) flux at the AR5 artificial reef site in northeast Gulf of Mexico from October 2016 – August 2017 versus month (duration). Box tops and bottoms indicate the 25th and 75th percentiles, dashed lines indicate mean values, whiskers indicate 1.5*IQR, and symbols indicate extreme values Fig. 4 Chlorophyll a, biofilm fiomass, inorganic mass and epifauna biomass of AR4, AR5 and AR6 artificial reef sites in the Northeast Gulf of Mexico in August 2016 where AR4 = 13.2 m, AR5 = 14.1 m, and AR6 = 14.5 m. Mean ± S.E. of chlorophyll a SI. Fig. 2 Observed (blue) versus predicted (red) fits of (a) duration (months), (b) epifaunal mass (ADFW g/cm2), (c) epifaunal inorganic mass (g/cm2), (d) biofilm (g/cm2), or (e) Chl a content (ng/cm2) on dissolved oxygen (DO) flux (μmol/cm2/hr) SI Fig. 3 Observed (blue) versus predicted (red) fits of (a) duration (months), (b) epifaunal mass (AFDW g/cm2), (c) epifaunal inorganic mass (g/cm2), (d) biofilm (g/cm2), or (e) Chl a content (ng/cm2) on ammonium (NH4 +) flux (μmol/cm2/hr) SI Fig. 4 Observed (blue) versus predicted (red) fits of (a) duration (months), (b) epifaunal mass (AFDW g/cm2), (c) epifaunal inorganic mass (g/cm2), (d) biofilm fraction (g/cm2), or (e) Chl a content (ng/cm2) on NO3- + NO2- (NO3-) flux (μmol/cm2/hr) SI Fig. 5 Observed (blue) versus predicted (red) fits of (a) duration (months), (b) epifaunal mass (AFDW g/cm2), (c) epifaunal inorganic mass (g/cm2), (d) biofilm (g/cm2), or (e) Chl a content (ng/cm2) on dissolved inorganic phosphate (DIP) flux (μmol/cm2/hr) SI Fig. 6 Partial effects of independent factors (a) duration (months), (b) epifaunal mass (AFDW g/cm2), (c) epifaunal inorganic mass (g/cm2), (d) biofilm (g/cm2), or (e) Chl a content (ng/cm2) on dissolved oxygen (DO) flux (μmol/cm2/hr). Dashed gray lines indicate 95% confidence intervals around the predicted values (black line). Partial effects indicate the effect of the independent variable on the response variable while all other independent variables are held constant SI Fig. 7 Partial effects of independent factors (a) duration (months), (b) epifaunal mass (AFDW g/cm2), (c) epifaunal inorganic mass (g/cm2), (d) biofilm (g/cm2), or (e) Chl a content (ng/cm2) on ammonium (NH4+) flux (μmol/cm2/hr).
