abstract

  • A geometrical and constitutive design parameter can be changed to improve the aircraft’s aeroelastic flight envelope. In this study, the aeroelastic behavior of an aircraft is investigated by varying geometric parameters., including wing aspect ratio, surface area, sweep angle, angles between tails, fuselage length, and engine placement. We employ three computer programs Nonlinear Aeroelastic Trim And Stability of HALE Aircraft (NATASHA), Variational Asymptotic Beam Sectional Analysis (VABS), and GMSH to provide a comprehensive aeroelastic stability analysis. VABS calculates the wing inertial and stiffness characteristics utilizing a realistic cross-section. The obtained results show that all studied parameters have a significant effect on aircraft stability and flutter speed. A trend is identified in each case, along with which the parameter increases or decreases the aircraft’s flutter speed.
