The utilization of polarized light in biomedicine is expanding to more and more applications. This chapter introduces concepts on the physics of polarized light that are most useful to scientist embarking in this novel field. This chapter also covers fundamentals of electromagnetic field propagation, the Jones formalism, Stokes vectors, and Mueller Matrix analysis. Various decomposition methods for Mueller matrix utilized in the biomedical field are discussed.
