abstract

  • Verification as a quality control step has a variety of meanings in forensic science processes, from a simple review of paperwork to a blind replication of an examiner’s key work steps to validate their work. Open verification can admit cognitive biases, which can have an effect on the outcome of the process. Blind verification, where the reviewer does not know the examiner’s decisions, is thought to provide better error detection but discussion continues on the effectiveness of verification in forensic science
