abstract

  • Any collection of objects, real or imagined, is a set. Taxonomies organize sets into classification schemes, or classes. Forensic science uses natural and manufactured taxonomies to identify evidence. All forensic evidence is class-level evidence. Individualization is classifying an object into a set with one member: Itself. Individualization is not practically possible. Therefore, statistics are required for interpretation.
