abstract

  • Composition of (30-x) SrO-xBaO-10Al2O3-45SiO2-5B2O3-10Y2O3 (mol%) (5 ≤ x ≤ 25, in step of 5) has been synthesized using melt-quench route. The structural aspects of glasses were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Electrical conductivity and dielectric properties of the glasses were also investigated with the help of impedance analyzer. With the increase of BaO content in these glasses, density has been found to increase due to higher density of BaO (5.72 g cm−3) than SrO (4.70 g cm−3). The highest value of electrical conductivity is observed 3.34 × 10−6 S cm−1, where BaO and SrO are in the same ratio (15:15) mol%, i.e., 15BS glass. The conductivity curves show two distinct slopes except 10BS glass, indicating change in hopping mechanism. 10BS glass shows the highest thermal and frequency-independent dielectric constant, which could be used in microelectronic applications.
