In this work, we have considered a solid hexagonal lattice photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with five rings of air holes in cladding region, where the diameter of the air holes of first ring is smaller than that of the other air holes. A very low group velocity dispersion and high nonlinearity at 450 nm have been obtained for d/Λ = 0.345 of the air holes of first ring. It is also found that the low dispersion is almost independent of core materials. Here, the optical mode characteristics have been calculated by using the finite element method (FEM) in the wavelength range of 400 nm to 2000 nm. Dispersion parameters and nonlinearity parameters of the PCFs are compared to check the possibility of broadband supercontinuum generation. It is further demonstrated that relatively high broadband can be achieved using highly nonlinear chalcogenides (As2Se3 and Gen. 5As24Se64.5) with relatively low power optical pulse.
