abstract

  • In this work, we present the design of a dual high-order mode leaky wave antenna. The antenna is designed to operate simultaneously at TM_11 and TE_11 modes, while typical leaky wave antennas (LWAs) operate at their fundamental mode, e.g., TE_10. Utilizing the two orthogonal modes, our proposed design, not only doubles the channel capacity, but it also scans in both the elevation and azimuth planes. Broadwall slots are etched for the TM_11 mode scanning from -9 to 24 in the elevation plane with a maximum gain of 14.77 dBi. By etching a second set of slots on the sidewall, the TE_11 mode scans in the azimuth for a range of 29 degrees (65 to 94) achieving a maximum gain of 9.24 dBi.
