abstract

  • This study aims to investigate the stability and fatigue life of an origami structure. We utilize the Kresling origami pattern to design the structure. The origami patterns are applicable in multiple engineering fields, including aerospace, architecture, electromagnetic, robotic, etc. We use the Finite Element Method available in ANSYS software to simulate this structure. First, we investigate the stability analysis with different length ratios (b/a). Then, we study the effects of several design parameters such as total height, length ratio (b/a), and thickness on the life cycle. We find out that the stability of an origami structure decreases with the increase of the length ratio (b/a). The results demonstrate that the effect of the total height on the fatigue life depends on the length ratio (b/a). The results indicate that the life cycle of the origami structure is enhanced by decreasing the thickness.
