abstract

  • The C/P boundary in the stratotype region was defined by conodonts in the Aidaralash section and is defined in the fusulinid stratigraphic scale between the Ultradaixina bosbytauensis-Schwagerina robusta and Sphaeroschwagerina vulgaris aktjubensis-S.fusiformis zones. Fusulinid assemblages in the South Urals, Southern Alps and Darvas are taxonomically very similar, so that regularities of the development of Uralian fusulinids are well traced in the Carnic Alps. Until recently, the Permian in the Carnic Alps was considered to begin at the level of first occurrence of Occidentoschwagerina alpina, "micro-" and "Emegalospheric" specimens. However, it is not dimorphism that we deal with there, but two different genera: Occidentoschwagerina and Ultradaixina. The lower part of the Lower Pseudoschwagerina Limestone (LPL) is correlated with the Daixina sokensis Zone of the standard fusulinid scale. The major part of LPL corresponds to the Ultradaixina bosbytauensis-Schwagerina robusta fusulinid zone. The precise position of the C/P boundary in the Schulterkofel section is not clear as yet, but it is not lower than SK-122.
