On the basis of a study of the phylogenies of Obsoletes, Triticites (s. str.,), Protriticites, Montiparus and Rauserites, a scheme of their phylogenetic relationships is presented. It is shown that Triticites and Rauserites evolved independently and in parallel, but at different rates. It is likewise shown that the members of the phylogenetic line of Obsoletes, Ferganites and Triticites (s. str.) form the independent family Triticitidae fam. nov. It can be considered appropriate to draw the boundary between the Middle and Upper Carboniferous at the currently accepted level - at the base of the beds with Obsoletes. -Journal summary
