Advanced practice providers (APP) help fill the ongoing physician workforce shortage in critical care. APPs are an important part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients have access to timely, high-quality care. Research data are limited by the variability of roles, assignments, and utilization of the APP in the intensive care unit.
