abstract

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of blending Rangal coal with a premium coking coal of the same rank on the high temperature behavior of cokes. Coal and coke properties were characterized using a variety of techniques including X-ray diffraction and SEM emphasizing modification of carbon structure and mineral matter as a consequence of thermal treatment at a range of conditions up to 1873K. High temperature properties of cokes were related to modification of CO2 reactivity. The study will assist in optimizing the influence of Rangal coals in the blends to achieve suitable coke quality.
