abstract

  • Quantitative studies at Fire Island, NY, and Hatteras Island, NC, have shown that these barriers are actually eroding on both sides and experiencing bayside submergence. Research at Assateague Island, MD, showed that islands must narrow to a critical width after which barrier-rollover by inlet and overwash processes becomes effective. -from Author
