abstract

  • The economic and social impact of coastal erosion in the U.S.A. is outlined. Recommendations are made for action by the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the National Flood Insurance Program to identify erosion hazard zones as a step to erosion and flood loss reduction. Further recommendations concern methodologies for determining shoreline recession rates, standards for development, erosion control, education, research and other matters related to lessening the effects of erosion and coastal flood losses.
