abstract

  • As a biological matrix, hair is unique in that it provides a linear history of metabolism and uptake. Soft tissues are more ephemeral as substrates and bone is reworked, albeit slowly. Hair, however, is robust and an excellent “recording” of diet, environmental intake, and location. Used in disciplines from archeology to forensic science to public health to medicine, hair is a complex structural matrix that provides numerous opportunities for morphological and chemical analysis.
