abstract

  • The 48 amphibian species known from La Selva represent nine families. Frogs and toads are diverse, abundant, and occur in most habitats within La Selva, whereas caecilians and salamanders form minor components of the fauna. The author describes the composition of the fauna, compares the La Selva fauna to five other Neotropical lowland faunas, reviews reproductive modes exhibited by La Selva amphibians, reviews studies that have been completed at La Selva, and proposes future research. -from Author
