When a machine breaks down, the reason for breakdown or the fault must be located before repair work can start. Statistical decision theory can be used to locate the faults with minimum efforts (cost/time). This article presents a microcomputer program to establish an inspection procedure which specifies a definite action for each symptom. The objective is to minimize total time to locate the fault. An interactive microcomputer program in BASIC is given in the appendix. It will run on IBM PC and compatible machines.
