An efficient recording technique with the impulsive signal and continuous reference beams is proposed to increase the diffraction efficiency (DE) for different conditions. By designing the exposure format of the signal beam, the DE can reach a high value. The technique is very efficient for different initial reference-signal beam ratios. For all cases, the DE can be raised to different extent. Especially when r0≤1, the DE is increased significantly. This is improved by the great change of the grating shape with the new technique. The new grating shape makes all part of the crystal contribute to the DE.
