abstract

  • Novel synthetic approaches to thin film p-type semiconductor absorbers for incorporation in heterojunction photovoltaic (PV) devices will be discussed. The goal in developing these materials is to enable construction of PV devices where the absorber layer is incorporated using low-cost non-vacuum based deposition processes. Synthetic routes to the materials, and the analytical methods used for characterization, will be presented. In a broader context, we will also consider the need for inexpensive, high purity and environmentally sustainable absorber materials to advance the widespread adoption of thin film PV energy production.
