abstract

  • Case presentation of a 6 1/2-year-old who presented with acute onset of gaze palsy to the left, right sixth cranial nerve palsy, skew deviation, downbeat vertical nystagmus, ptosis, and marked bilateral papilledema. Subsequently, developed a central left facial palsy and extensive work-up including magnetic resonance imaging, computerized tomography scan, several lumbar punctures; brain stem, somatosensory, and visual evoked potentials; electroencephalogram, etc...confirmed a diagnosis of idiopathic pseudotumor cerebri. Patient was placed on Diamox, and eventually obtained complete resolution of his clinical picture. Twenty-four month follow-up has shown no recurrences. Discussion of these findings in the context of pseudotumor cerebri and its evaluation will be made, and review of the literature regarding motility patterns documented in typical pseudotumor cerebri will be shown.
