abstract
Our current technique for carotid endarterectomy is presented. Modifications have been made over the past 20 years. These include never shunting to selective shunting based on stump pressures, primary closure to vein patch closure to prosthetic patch closure, and intraoperative duplex scanning to detect technical defects. Nonetheless, the underlying principle of striving for technical perfection has resulted in excellent results despite variations in the technique. © 1999 by Thieme Medical Publishers, Inc.
