abstract

  • This article presents the findings of preliminary research on housing and neighborhood recovery conducted in the spring of 2008 in New Orleans. The housing recovery in Post-Katrina New Orleans is situated within broader social processes of community and neighborhood recovery; this article explores such processes from the perspectives of those activists and community leaders who are working directly in the recovery. The key questions that it addresses concern the obstacles to and assets in the city's recovery. Participants' narratives illuminate the complex dynamics involved in rebuilding the neighborhoods that make New Orleans home.
