abstract
In this paper preliminary results are presented for gas flow velocity measurements in microscale via Image Correlation Velocimetry (ICV). Nitrogen flow in a microchannel of square 500 μm × 500 μm cross section was studies for Reynolds numbers in the range of 50 to 180. The flow was seeded with acetone vapor to obtain Laser Induced Fluorescence images that are subsequently used for ICV analysis. Controlled gas flow is produced in the test cell and associated flow loop. Pressures at the channel entrance and exit are measured, as well as, gas mass flow rate. These measurements allow gas flow velocity estimation for comparison with ICV measurements. Measurements in the parameter range studied so far agree well with conventional scale correlations for square channel flows. Copyright © 2005 by ASME.
