This is a journal symposium on the theme of violence in the mass media. The symposium begins with Dr. Louis Gottschalk's paper, which identifies a number of concerns involving the dissemination of violent content (graphic and textual) that might trigger discordant, erratic or violent behavior in observers. Discussion of elements of his paper by eleven commentators follows.
