abstract

  • This paper profiles endowed/named real estate professorships and the individuals holding these positions at institutions of higher education in the United States. The typical levels of compensation, teaching load, service requirements, and research expectations associated with these real estate professorships as well as the backgrounds and credentials of the faculty who hold these positions are evaluated. Focused real estate scholarship and service are the primary characteristics of endowed/named position holders. Position holder characteristics imply that real estate is a separate discipline. This information is important to individuals who would like to pursue such positions, institutions seeking to establish such positions, and institutions that currently have such positions and wish to assess their relative attractiveness versus market alternatives.
