abstract

  • Because of increasingly dynamic and changing environments there is a greater need to create particular problem-solving designs so that frequently emerging problems can be defined and addressed. The MAPS Design Technology is a systematic set of methodologies to actually create problem-solving designs distinct from the organization's operational design. It is argued that the latter design is best for guiding specific, day-to-day activities while the problem-solving design is needed for the ill-defined, long-term concerns of the organization. Without a technology such as MAPS, the organization is expected to have a fairly difficult time in trying to create and decide on something as important and complex as organization design by simply intuitive processes. © 1976, Sage Publications.
