abstract

  • In any construction environment, the sequence of work is usually flexible enough to allow for different scenarios regarding the order of execution of the project activities. As a result, the scheduling process should allow for testing alternative sequences of activities before a final schedule is generated. This paper describes an intelligent interactive graphic-based system being developed to generate alternative schedules for multi-story projects. The proposed system is designed to utilize an initial linear schedule generated by an existing knowledge-based system. The proposed system will employ an intelligent approach that allows the user to manipulate activity production lines directly on a graphics display, subject to a set of preset scheduling criteria. The defined criteria specify activity parameters and scheduling constraints that restrict the user modifications of the schedule to a range of feasible alternatives.
