Nail psoriasis is a common and disabling manifestation of cutaneous plaque-type psoriasis that affects the patient both functionally and psychologically. The prevalence of nail involvement in psoriatic patients ranges from 7 to 56 %, with the lifetime incidence being as high as 80–90 %. Nail psoriasis is a frequent ailment among patients and a great source of disability. Nail manifestations can be associated with pain, an altered sense of touch, and a functional impairment in dexterity resulting in an inability to grab small objects. All these conditions culminate in a restriction of daily activities, psychological stress, low self-esteem, and a reduced quality of life.
