abstract

  • Wireless communications for sensors embedded in lossy media are studied here. Our analytical formulations rely on the plane wave propagation models, and focus on calculating the transmission loss and propagation loss of RF waves penetrating various media. Our results illustrate the existence of optimum frequencies for RF communications with sensors inside fresh water, soil and concrete, while providing minimum power transmission attenuation and the maximum propagation depth. © 2011 IEEE.
