The mechanism of the olivine(Ç)-spinel( ) transformation was followed using a newly developed high pressure time-resolved x-ray diffraction technique. It was found that such transformation driven by temperature at high pressure is controlled by a pseudomartensitic transformation mechanism: a diffusionless oxygen sublattice transition coupled with short-range diffusional cation recording.
