abstract

  • The demand for in-process inspection methods is increasing. A new inspection method is proposed in this paper, which can be used to evaluate the dimensions of miniature gears subsequent to their production on gear manufacturing machines. The method evaluates the intensity variation of the reflected laser beam from the tooth surfaces of miniature gears while they rotate. A simple pattern matching technique and unsupervised neural networks are used for classification of the intensity variation patterns.
