abstract

  • It is shown that simultaneous lasing on two cascade transitions may be realized in an ensemble of incoherently pumped three- level atoms confined in a doubly resonant cavity. Depending on the ratio of the cavity decay rates for the two laser fields, the cascade system may exhibit both lasing without inversion and with inversion. That is, one lasing field is generated from light amplification by coherence while the other is by stimulated emission from population inversion, and vise versa. © 1994.
