abstract

  • Suppressions of the closed-loop photocurrent fluctuation below the shot noise level by -12.8 dB (94.8%) in the negative-feedback light-emitted diode and -14.9 dB (96.8%) in the negative-feedback laser diode were observed, which are larger than the limit of the maximum photocurrent-noise suppression given by the quantum measurement theory of a photodetector with a quantum efficiency (η = 85% and 90%) for a light filed of photon number states (i.e., for Fock-state light). We use the concept of an anticorrelation light state proposed by Masalov et al. [A.V. Masalov, A.A. Putilin, M.V. Vasilyev, J. Mod. Opt. 41 (1994) 1941] to analyze this squeezed mechanism, and derive the dependence of closed-loop photocurrent and photon noise squeezing on the feedback gain and total detected quantum efficiency. Our semiclassical analysis gives the correlation functions between quantum-noise and classical modulated-noise components in both the photocurrent and light intensity fluctuations, and also yields the squeezed spectrum of the intensity fluctuation in the loop. © 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
