abstract
Studies in the magnetization of rocks raise some interesting problems. The rocks often show magnetizations that are reversed, compared to the ones that accord with the earth's present magnetic field. There are two theories-'field reversal' and 'self reversal'-that account for the finding, and this article discusses the evidence for, and the conflict between, these two theories. © 1966.
